We decided a couple of weeks ago to try out Le Sacre-bleu restaurant. We had heard and seen good things about this hidden gem but nothing prepared us for the "experience" of contempary french dining.
Le Sacre-bleu is tucked away in Gold Street in Northampton, and unless you know it is there you could easily miss it - and what a tragedy this would be, for this restaurant more than lives up to its reputation as a first class dining experience.
When you walk into Le Sacre-bleu you step into a completely different environment, one which evokes memories of holidays, a relaxed atmosphere, a place that you would always hope to find on your travels. The decor is striking, elegant and relaxed at the same time, you feel at once that this is the sort of place you would like to return to and make a regular habit of - you are warmly met by the staff and the owner Hamid will usually stop by to say Bonjour. Now to the crunch - with this atmosphere, environment etc., what about the food?
The food is simply delicious, real french cooking with good ingredients excellently prepared. The menu caters for all tastes including vegetarians, but sticks to classic french dishes superbly executed. The wine list is extensive and compliments the food superbly. It all leads to a truly great evening out - This restaurant is for you if you are foodies, if you like fine wine, if you want to dine well locally in a great atmosphere - you simply must check out Le Sacre-bleu.
